Mojza’s 2025 Essay Competition features 6 prompts from 2 categories: fiction and non-fiction. You get to choose 1 of the 6 prompts to write an essay up to 750 words.
Fiction Category
Prompt 1:
- Having finally plucked up the courage to flee your toxic and abusive household, you quickly find yourself lost in a hazy field struck by disaster. Do you wake up to reality and return to the safety of your home, or keep going on, hanging on to the hope of a better future for yourself?
Prompt 2:
- After years away in a vastly different environment (e.g., another country, a different social circle), a character returns to their hometown or original community, only to find they no longer fit in, nor do they fully belong where they’ve been. How will they navigate this liminal space?
Prompt 3:
- There is a world where your identity begins unravelling as you lose memories – your mind constantly haunted by echoes of your past self. What would be the one memory that grounds you, that literally keeps you alive?
Non-fiction Category
Prompt 4:
- Write about what is important to you now. Has it always been a priority, or has the definition of importance changed over your life?
Prompt 5:
- “Who cares?” “How could I be so foolish?” “What’s the big deal?” We often find ourselves asking such rhetorical questions, without seeking any real answers. It is an unspoken rule to never think about the answers to a rhetorical question, but what if we broke this rule. Choose a rhetorical question or make up one of your own, and answer it to the best of your ability.
Prompt 6:
- What matters more in media? Is it the intent of the creator/author for their art or the way it is perceived by the consumer?

The total prize pool of 30,000 PKR will be distributed between the top 3 winners:
1st place: Rs. 15,000
2nd place: Rs. 10,000
3rd place: Rs. 5,000
All participants will receive a certificate according to their results alongside a scoresheet that was used to mark your essay across 10 metrics to give you feedback.
