JASNA Essay Contest 2026

International essay competition for high school, undergraduate, and graduate students. Participants submit an original essay on a Jane Austen-related topic and compete for scholarships up to $1,000.
Eligibility: Open worldwide to students enrolled during the contest year in high school, college/university (minimum six credit hours), or graduate school (minimum three credit hours). Essays must be written in English.
Cost: No entry fee. Membership in JASNA is not required to participate.
Benefits: First Place: $1,000 scholarship plus complimentary AGM registration and two nights’ lodging; Second Place: $500; Third Place: $250. Winners also receive a one-year JASNA membership, publication of their essay, and a set of Norton Critical Editions of Jane Austen’s novels.
